Dr. Scott Tushla: Family Practice
Dr Tushla is a board-certified family physician with over 25 years of experience. His earliest years were spent in Denver, but grade school and college were in southern California. He graduated from Creighton University Medical School and residency at Phoenix Baptist Hospital. He practiced rural and emergency medicine in western Nebraska and Arizona for 10 years. He then practiced full-spectrum family practice including obstetrics, pediatric and adult admissions in Ventura, California before moving to Colorado Springs in 2015. He has been chief medical administrator of several skilled nursing facilities, senior homes and of a hospice. Dr Tushla knows and has worked with many of the specialists in the Springs area. His wife Lisa, president of Terranova Medica, works in medical education, mainly in oncology and infectious diseases. She collaborates with faculty at the University of Colorado.
His son Zach is in second grade at SPCS and is active in music and sports and has recently created a sports school YouTube site. Dr Tushla is excited to start his full-service family practice clinic in the tradition of medicine that was practiced by his grandfather and father.
A typical day for a family practice doctor may include appointments with sick children, conducting physicals to assess overall health, prescribing medicine, discussing treatment options with families, coordinating with other medical professionals for diagnosis, dealing with emergencies, and educating patients and parents about illness and how to assist in the treatment process. Family Practice doctors may work during regular business hours or other shifts depending on the needs of their patients.
